Created by three Lebanese artists\u2014Kinda Hassan (composer), Racha Baroud (performer), and Carine Doumit (writer and editor)\u2014 *Elegy of a Disappearance*<\/em> is a performance based on a sound-driven narrative that explores the disappearance of memory, bodies, and territories in the Mediterranean region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work is composed of fragments of sound, visual, and textual material, drawn from field research conducted in Marseille, Cairo, and Beirut, drawing as much from each individual\u2019s personal stories as from collective history, and which function as traces of memory that resist the erasures inflicted upon these regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On stage, the artists take turns and come together to use these fragments to create scenes that blend imagery, voices, movement, and electroacoustic compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carine Doumit<\/h2>\n

Carine Doumit explores editing as a space for shared creation, a tool and a language for building collective experiences and knowledge. She collaborates on the writing and editing of films, videos, installations, and performances that are presented at various festivals, museums, and art galleries, including FIDMarseille, CPH DOX, The Eye, and the Beirut Art Center, among others. She writes short texts published in specialized journals or presented in exhibition spaces, as well as short stories published at contemporary art and design fairs. She has held residencies at the Arsenal Archives (Berlin, 2019), the Beirut Art Center (Beirut, 2020), MacDowell (United States, 2021 and 2024) and at the Bogliasco Center (Italy, 2025). She shares her experience in writing and editing through workshops offered as part of university programs and at arts institutions. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Racha Baroud<\/h2>\n
<\/div>\n\n \n \n

Racha Baroud is a Lebanese performer and director. In 2015, she directed *Today was my birthday*<\/em> in Paris, a musical tribute to Tadeusz Kantor\u2019s *Theater of Death*. In 2020, she co-directed the documentary *Ali, Hachem, and Khaled<\/em>* with filmmaker Roy Arida. In May 2022, she presented her play *What if those tears were not only mine?<\/em> * in Beirut. In 2023, she began a performative research project on the theme of erasure with patients at the Mal\u00e9voz psychiatric hospital in Monthey, Switzerland. She is currently working on her next performance , *When adjusted to darkness, your eyes begin to see*,<\/em> in collaboration with composer Kinda Hassan, with whom she forms the duo Deaf-Tones. Since 2019, she has been part of the team at Studio Amalgam, a space dedicated to the performing arts in Beirut. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>

Kinda Hassan<\/h2>\n
<\/div>\n\n \n \n

Kinda Hassan is a Paris-based composer and artist who works with sound, video, crafts, and software programming. Her works have been presented at various festivals, museums, and art galleries, including the R\u00e9sonance Festival in Marseille (Mucem), the Propagations Festival (GMEM), Mans Sonore (Le Mans Biennale), in Cannes, at the Berlinale, in Oberhausen, in Jihlava, at Transmediale, at La Mar\u00e9chalerie, at the Mumok in Vienna, at the Casa \u00c1rabe in Madrid, and at other art spaces, festivals, and platforms across Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Kinda Hassan earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA) in 2007 and a Master\u2019s degree in sound design from the Higher School of Art and Design (ESAD-TALM) in Le Mans in 2018. Since October 2024, she has been working on an artistic doctoral research project focused on the construction of automated instruments as an electroacoustic compositional practice.
