The 3rd edition of the Biennale of Digital Imagination will take place in Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Avignon from 10 November 2022 to 22 January 2023. Through its opening nights, exhibition trails and industry events, the Biennale provides a chance for 60 or so digital artists to explore the theme of The Night.
The Night, A Theme Rich in Meaning
The night is a space of dreams, nightmares, and self-metamorphoses, where bodies, identities and behaviours are transformed. As such a force for creation, the night has always been seen as a space to be controlled. Daytime activities are encroaching more and more on the night-time space, particularly in night-time urban settings. The round-the-clock nature of the economy and networks, of computers and algorithms is holding more and more sway over our lifestyles and has done away with spaces for rest and freedom. Has the encroachment of technology reached as far as our dreams?
An Event of Scale, for all Audiences!
– A night-time public space art trail, both in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille
– An international exhibition trail between Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Avignon, across 9 partner sites
– Workshops and talks specifically for students and families
– Une Rentrée Numérique, an outreach and workshop programme for teachers and students
– Live acts (concerts, shows, performances) at the opening and the closing of the Biennale
– Industry events as well as an International Marketplace for Digital Art (MIAN)
– Awards ceremonies with our partners, the Vasarely Foundation and the Digital Art Club
The Biennale brought in 50,000 visitors in 2018 and there is no doubt that more will come this year, following two very restricted years due to the healthcare crisis.
A Biennale Anchored in the South of France but Open to the World
With the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Flanders having been invited to draw up the programme together, the Biennale presents a unique opportunity to discover the vitality of the Belgian art scene in the south of France! In all, the international programme will feature 60 or so digital artworks – 16 of which come from the CHRONIQUES CRÉATIONS platform – bringing together 39 regional, national, and international partners.
For the organisers – SECONDE NATURE in Aix-en-Provence and ZINC in Marseille, two organisations now grouped under the banner of CHRONIQUES – this third edition of the Biennale of Digital Imagination is an opportunity to show the diversity of the digital arts to the general public, families, and students, to fans of contemporary art or of technology, and to those simply curious to find out more.
