La perception de l’astronome

LUCIEN BITAUX

Installation and visual art

The astronomer’s perception is an image machine based on the eye model.

It is a response to the “Perception Observatory” project, which will be developed in parallel from September. The astronomer’s perception is an installation that proposes an interpretation of neuronal reactions to the night sky. Different floating and moving elements embody the role of ideas and stimuli that animate the cortex when our eye is active in front of the stars. The viewer is plunged into the astronomer’s imagination, into the paradox between the infinite dimension of the stars and his own imagination, at the edge of the eye. This projected theatre transcribes this tension between the tangible materiality of the celestial vault and the tiny nervous reactions that allow us to conceive these spatial expanses.

Artist

Lucien Bitaux

Naïvely, Lucien Bitaux is looking for other ways of capturing and showing reality. This experimental and visual approach is based on the manufacture of his own instruments. His working protocol is similar to that of a scientific laboratory: he makes visualization devices, then produces images with these cobbled-together tools, then exhibits these results in special installation devices.
