Performance
SpaceTime Helix is a performance with an A/V instrument designed by Michela Pelusio in 2012. The work explores helical symmetries and infinity, frequencies and geometry, sonic visions and perceptions. The helix is a giant vertical spinning standing wave in a white string, forming a large helicoid up to the ceiling. Its surface is bright and transparent, with waves running over it, disappearing into the future, more and more distant in space-time.
Standing wave harmonics are the foundation of modern physics and our understanding of reality. In Quantum mechanics the energy levels of a particle are standing quantum-mechanical waves. In String theory the particles themselves are strings in 10 dimensional space-time and each type of particles is a different standing wave harmonic.

Artist
Michela Pelusio (ITA)
Italian sculptor, art scientist (Art and Science MA) and performer Michela Pelusio, focuses her work on immersive installations using space, light, matter and sound, producing experiences of being present in an environment that is magic and non-recordable. Her research involves the exploration of human perception and the crossover between art, science and technology. Michela completed a Master in Art and Science at the Interfaculty of ArtScience (KABK, KONCON) in The Hague, where she subsequently also taught the courses Synesthetics and Genius Loci. She studied Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art of Carrara, in Italy.
