Passengers, a space-time capsule suspended between past and future, offers a contemplative and introspective experience which questions our own finitude.

By changing the way we think, work or travel, digital technologies transform us both psychologically and physically. They reshape our intimate and social groups, propelling us into the unknown.

Throughout time, societies have established rites of passage to mark the crossing of symbolic or social thresholds. Similarly, Passengers marks the change of era that we are going through, in the same way as we go through landscapes or our own existence.

Passengers fits in a container where both ends open to reveal a kaleidoscopic interior that calls the perspectives of the exhibition site into question. Visitors are invited to walk through the installation to see their image infinitely increased in size in a landscape of moving pixels. The visual and sound compositions play with the visitors’ physical movement, aiming to distance them from their own body.

Artist

Guillaume Marmin (FRA)

Guillaume Marmin designs installations and performances conducive to the exploration of links between light, sound and space. Influenced by filmmakers such as Norman McLaren and Stan Brakhage as well as by kinetic art, he continues to study forms in movement using contemporary tools. Whether exploring scientific questions, nourished by collaborations with researchers, or mysterious symbolism, his creations showcase our relationship to light.

After studying audiovisuals, his first works were presented in 2005 at the Biennale of Contemporary Art in Lyon where he was part of the “young artists” selection. Since then, his projects have led him to work in many countries for group and personal exhibitions as well as accepting commissions for permanent installations in public spaces. Cultivating a strong link with music, Guillaume also designs scenographies and performs alongside artists such as Jeff Mills and the Walter Dean trio.
