The receiver of a sight telegraph is connected to sensors that expand the threshold of human perception; it reacts to variations found in its close surroundings.
This process involves the training of Artificial Intelligence in analyzing imperceptible phenomena on a human scale-electromagnetic waves evolving within the environment—to detect meaning: speech, words, sentences…
The audience is first invited to listen to this strange machine as it transposes into audible frequencies the signal analyzed by the neural network: an evolving white noise, whose modulations are sometimes similar to the voice’s formants. As occurrences are found, the viewer sees the telegraph being activated to transmit these messages from the invisible. All the machine’s activity is recorded in a logbook, allowing spectators to consult the mysterious information captured by this device.
If we seem to be trapped in the illusion of a single world, this generative installation attempts to reveal the fantasy of other possible worlds, either parallel or underlying this one. It relies on the promising technologies of the future to allow a new understanding of the present.

Artist
Véronique Béland (CAN)
Born in Quebec (Canada), Véronique Béland has been living in France since 2010, where she graduated from the Studio national des arts contemporains le Fresnoy (Michael Snow Promotion, 2010-2012). She also holds a masters in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec at Montréal. Her practice, which gravitates between media arts and literature, focuses on elusive phenomena on a human scale, in a constant attempt to explore what seems empty to reveal its content. Through various protocols of transcoding, which convoke both the worlds of art and science, her works seek to create contact between the perceptible and the imperceptible, from which a certain form of narrative emerges.
