DJs and producers Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, known as MODESELEKTOR, hardly need any introduction.
Since the early 2000s, they have been a staple of the Berlin techno scene, deeply rooted in East Berlin.
After numerous tours, they became an internationally recognized band. At the same time, Bronsert and Szary founded the label Monkeytown Records, a true creative hub within the MODESELEKTOR universe. There, they produce not only their own tracks but also those of many other artists across various genres.
It’s clear that MODESELEKTOR is built on friendship, open-mindedness, and an eclectic optimism toward electronic music. IDM, hip-hop, UK bass, breaks, house, ambient: MODESELEKTOR has thrown itself wholeheartedly into all these styles, bringing great variety to their music. Not to mention their numerous collaborations with international producers,
, and musicians—and, of course, their friends. For example, on their album *Monkeytown*, you can hear Thom Yorke of Radiohead. MODESELEKTOR has also collaborated with Tommy Cash, Flohio, Siriusmo, Blixa Bargeld, Iggor Cavalera, Catnapp, Otto Von Schirach, Paul St. Hilaire, Omar Souleyman, Anti Pop Consortium, Miss Platnum, and many others. Bronsert
, and Szary are one and the same; they’ve never really worked separately over the years.
Then came Moderat. It was a project with their best friend Sascha Ring, aka Apparat. The formation of this trio opened up a whole new world for MODESELEKTOR. Sold-out concerts, packed venues: they created a true phenomenon.
But then, Sascha Ring relaunched his solo project under the name Apparat, and MODESELEKTOR was in need of a well-deserved break. They were like chemists in their lab, concocting music in the noblest sense of the word. The duo is returning to its roots, to its beginnings. With K7!, they’re releasing the DJ-Kicks compilation *
* by MODESELEKTOR. While creating this compilation, they were able to take a fresh look at their music, which guided them toward their new projects.
With “Classics Vol. 01” (MTR139 – CV1, inspired by Curriculum Vitae), MODESELEKTOR is releasing a special edition that traces the history of their career. With these eight tracks, the duo has reinterpreted their first two albums, *Hello Mom!* and *Happy Birthday!*, to create a new work.
These tracks weren’t simply reworked from old files, but were completely re-recorded with Johannes Wagner.
